Ever since we brought home our slushie machine, we’ve been having far too much fun experimenting with different frozen drink combinations. It’s quickly become one of those kitchen appliances that everyone in the house gets excited about— especially when it comes out for family movie nights!
The kids love helping dream up new flavour ideas (and, of course, taste-testing them), and I’ve loved having an excuse to recreate some of our favourite coffee shop treats at home.
One drink I was especially determined to figure out?
A copycat iced capp recipe.
You know the famous variety: creamy, smooth, frosty, and somehow both refreshing and indulgent all at once. The perfect little pick-me-up on a warm day. But I wanted mine to be dairy-free, easy to make, and just as satisfying as the version you’d grab from your local coffee shop.
And after a little experimenting we all agree that this recipe absolutely delivered.
The Perfect Homemade Dairy-Free Iced Capp
If you love stopping for a frozen coffee drink but don’t love the price tag (or the dairy), making your own homemade iced capp doesn’t have to be complicated.
This version hits all the right notes:
- Creamy and smooth
- Rich coffee flavour
- Refreshingly icy
- Completely dairy-free
- Quick to prepare
- Easy clean-up
Honestly, it tastes like dessert in a cup, which is probably why it has quickly become one of my favourite afternoon treats. And if you’re a parent? That caffeine boost is a pretty nice bonus, too.

Why We’re Loving Our Slushie Machine
One of the reasons this recipe works so beautifully is because of our new slushie machine, which is a knock off of the Ninja Slushie Machine.
It has completely elevated our at-home drink game.
Whether we’re hosting friends for a backyard gathering, having a quiet family movie night, or just looking for something fun to cool down with on a hot afternoon, serving homemade frozen drinks feels like such a special little luxury.
The kids get genuinely excited when they see the machine come out. And the best part is that these drinks take almost no time to prepare.

A Flexible Recipe You Can Make Your Own
One of my favourite things about this copycat iced capp recipe is how easy it is to customize.
In my original version, I used a vanilla hazelnut coffee, which adds such a lovely flavour and gives the drink an extra coffee-shop feel. But honestly, any coffee you have on hand will work beautifully.
Regular brewed coffee, cold brew, flavoured coffee, or even decaf—which is a great option if your kids want a little taste of the fun without the caffeine. Because yes… they will absolutely ask for a sip.
Dairy-Free Iced Capp Ingredients
You only need a few simple ingredients to make this creamy frozen coffee drink:
- Coffee
- Water
- Vegan chocolate milk
- Vegan half and half
- Vanilla extract
That’s it.
Simple ingredients, minimal effort, maximum reward.
The vegan chocolate milk adds subtle sweetness and richness, while the dairy-free half and half creates that ultra-creamy texture that makes an iced capp so irresistible.
The Ultimate Frozen Coffee Treat
For me, this dairy-free iced capp has quickly become one of my favourite little rituals.
It’s refreshing, comforting, and feels just indulgent enough to make an ordinary afternoon feel special.
There’s something so satisfying about being able to recreate that coffee shop experience at home—especially when it’s easier, more affordable, and tailored exactly to your taste.
Whether you’re hosting, relaxing on the patio, or simply in need of a mid-day pick-me-up, this homemade copycat iced capp recipe is one you’ll want to keep on repeat all summer long.
If you give this recipe a try, I’d love to hear what you think. Leave a comment and let me know how it turned out—or what fun flavour combinations you’ve been creating in your own slushie machine!

Tim Horton’s Copycat Chocolate Iced Capp Recipe
Equipment
Ingredients
- 6 tbsp vanilla hazelnut ground coffee or other ground coffee beans
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 cups dairy free chocolate milk I recommend Silk Almond Dark Chocolate
- ¾ cup dairy free half and half I used Silk brand
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare and brew the coffee with 4 cups of water. Once the coffee is made, stir in 1 cup of sugar until dissolved. Let cool completely (pouring hot liquid into your slushie machine may cause damage). You can also prepare this in advance and let chill in the fridge for best results.
- Once the coffee is fully cooled, stir it into a large bowl or container with the dairy free chocolate milk and half and half creamer, along with the vanilla extract.
- Pour into your slushie machine. Select the "frappe" (or slush mode) and let run according to your machine's directions.
- Once the machine advises it's completed it's mode, pour into a cup and serve. Enjoy!
