Hi, and welcome! I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. This blog is my little corner of the internet where I share plant-based recipes, gardening adventures, and the everyday joys of living a more compassionate, sustainable life.
Like many people, I didn’t grow up plant-based. I ate meat, eggs, and dairy because that’s what was considered “normal” and even “necessary” to be healthy. As a child, I was told animal products were essential, so I shrugged off my discomfort with the suffering behind them as just part of the “circle of life.”
But as I got older, I couldn’t ignore the reality anymore. Modern industrial farming is a far cry from the idyllic picture many of us imagine. Animals are treated as commodities, with little regard for their natural behaviors or individuality. Hens crammed in cages, pigs confined to stalls so small they can’t turn around, chickens bred to grow so unnaturally fast their bodies fail them. It’s all done in the name of efficiency and profit, not compassion. The faster and cheaper an animal can get to market, the better.
For a long time, I felt powerless. I thought, “Everyone else eats meat …what difference does it make if I stop?” But that quiet voice inside kept reminding me that my choices mattered. At the same time, I began diving into nutrition and was amazed at the research supporting plant-based eating – everything from improved energy to better heart health. And no, protein deficiency isn’t something to fear. In fact, I started to wonder why we were so obsessed with protein in the first place.
So I made the shift. Not overnight, and not perfectly, but step by step. Each choice I made to leave animal products off my plate was both a vote for a kinder food system and an investment in my own health.
And that’s why this blog exists.
This space is for everyone -whether you’re fully vegan, veg-curious, or just looking to enjoy a few more plant-forward meals without giving up tradition. Food is deeply personal and cultural, and I believe we don’t have to lose that connection when we choose compassion. Traditions can evolve and still taste just as good.
Here you’ll find:
- Simple, approachable plant-based recipes (the kind you’ll actually make!)
- Stories from my garden and journey toward growing more of my own food
- Heartwarming animal tales that remind us why compassion matters
Because sometimes what we need most is a nourishing meal, and sometimes it’s simply a reason to smile.
When we know better, we can do better. And my hope is that this blog gives you the inspiration, encouragement, and practical tools to make choices that feel good. For you, for animals, and for the planet.
Welcome to the journey.
With warmth,
Heather
