In 2024, we adopted a little bundle of ears, whiskers, and personality from the Humane Society—and he’s been hopping straight into our hearts ever since. Meet Zorro, our pet bunny!
I often joke that Zorro is basically a vegetarian cat. He’s calm, independent, and happy to lounge around, but he also loves company—especially when my daughter convinces him to join her games. The two of them hop through tunnels together in a sort of tag-team “chase,” and when playtime is over, Zorro flops on the floor in that classic rabbit way, waiting for a good scratch. Honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a friendlier, more laid-back rabbit.
That’s not to say he doesn’t have his moments of enthusiasm—particularly when treats are involved! His excitement for snacks sometimes makes my daughter a little wary, but it’s hard not to laugh at how much personality he packs into his gentle little hops. His diet is mostly hay (he has it available all the time), with a sprinkle of pellets delivered in puzzle feeders like a snuffle mat or treat ball to keep things interesting. And since we garden, he also gets the occasional taste test of herbs or veggies fresh from the yard—definitely a perk of being the family bunny.

Zorro is also litter-trained and has free reign in rabbit-proofed areas of the house, which makes him feel like a true member of the family. From day one he adapted beautifully—friendly with adults, patient with kids, and happy to be wherever the action is (or isn’t). We honestly got so lucky with him.
So here’s to Zorro: our calm, fluffy sidekick, garden taste-tester, and best little hop-around buddy. 🐰
While we love rabbits and can’t imagine life without our trusty friend anymore, it’s important to know that rabbits are not for everyone and require more care than one may think. I’ll be posting later with some rabbit basics for anyone who is considering a pet bunny to join them.
