Nothing goes together like ponies and little girls. Our daughter certainly agrees when it comes to her and her favourite pony, Rockstar. Rockstar is our tiny, yet spirited, pony who joined the farm in late 2024. She may only stand 10.2 hands high (she’s just a bit taller than a miniature horse) but she has already made a huge impact, especially in my daughter’s heart.

Small Pony, Big Personality

At about 20 years old, Rockstar is proof that age is just a number. She’s full of energy, curiosity, and plenty of spunk – so much so that you’d never guess she’s entered her golden years. Though she sits firmly at the bottom of the herd’s pecking order, that doesn’t stop her from trying to be part of the action. She makes her rounds between the horses, and when she doesn’t quite fit in with the mare clique, she can usually be found happily grazing alongside our other pony, Scotty. The two share sweet moments of mutual grooming and seem content to keep each other company.

A Pony Who Loves Her Food

If there’s one thing that defines Rockstar, it’s her food motivation. This pony does not miss a meal. The moment the dinner bell rings, she comes trotting across the field at full speed, nickering with excitement. Unlike some horses who require a lead rope and coaxing to bring in, Rockstar knows exactly where she’s going -just open the gate and she’ll march herself straight into her feeding stall like clockwork.

Pony and Child: A Perfect Match

While Rockstar may be motivated by dinner, she’s equally motivated by affection – especially from my daughter. The two are quickly becoming inseparable. Whether it’s slipping her a mint (and sneaking one for herself), fussing over her fluffy mane, or even using safe, washable animal dyes to “make her beautiful,” my daughter has found her perfect partner in Rockstar. Their bond is heartwarming to watch, and I can already imagine the braiding sessions that will happen when my daughter is a little older. Plus, Rockstar’s thick mane will be more than up for the challenge.

Rockstar Being Rockstar

When Rockstar isn’t being spoiled by my daughter or grazing peacefully with Scotty, she’s usually busy finding the dirtiest patch of the field to roll in. Keeping her coat white for long is simply not in her plans. But honestly, that’s part of her charm. A clean pony is nice, but a happy, grass-stained, slightly muddy Rockstar is even better.

Why Rockstar Lives Up to Her Name

Rockstar may not be the biggest or the boldest horse on the farm, but she’s definitely earned her name. With her larger-than-life spirit, her sweet bond with my daughter, gentle nature and her irresistible food-driven antics, she’s become a farm favourite in record time. Ponies like Rockstar remind us that joy comes in small, fuzzy packages -and that sometimes, the littlest member of the herd leaves the biggest hoofprints on your heart.

Two small ponies stand in a snowy landscape, one brown with a thick mane wearing a halter, and the other white with a light mane also wearing a halter. They appear friendly and are positioned close to each other.
